    Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rose Powell, age 86, died Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013, at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday March 22, 2013 at Belhaven Community Cemetery and will be officiated by her grandson, the Rev. Mark Powell.

    Mrs. Powell was born in Hyde County on April 22, 1926, daughter of the late Ira Rose and Gladys McKinney Rose. She was a 1943 graduate of Bath High School. On May 16, 1947, she married Charles Edwards Powell who preceded her in death on March 26, 2003. She was bookkeeper at O’Neal’s Drug Store and a member of the First Christian Church of Belhaven. She is survived by her daughters: Judy Thomas of Youngsville, NC, Mary Rose Hawkins and husband Wayne of Nashville, TN, Dorothy Wester and husband Len of Louisburg, NC; her son: Chuck Powell and wife Ginger of Greenville; her sister: Iris Furlough of Washington, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers: Coleman Rose and Jake Rose and two sisters: Mabel Cuthrell and Violet Sawyer.

    The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
