    Stuart McGuire Thomson, Jr., age 77 a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation in Washington.

    A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Oakdale Cemetery and will be officiated by Rev. Lonnie Darnell.

    Mr. Thomson was born in Rocky Mount on May 14, 1945, to the late Stuart M. Thomson, Sr. and Sarah McLean Thomson. He was a 1963 graduate of Washington High School. He received his bachelor's degree in Psychology and Zoology from NC State University and his master's degree in Biology from East Carolina University. Mr. Thomson was an instructor at Beaufort County Community College in the nursing program and Roanoke Chowan Community College Human Anatomy and Psychology departments. He married Betty Jean Klapp on April 3, 1986, and she preceded him in death May 3, 2014. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Washington.

    Survivors include his sister, Sarah Wyche of Lake Waccamaw, two stepdaughters, Tiffany Bey and husband David of Kernersville, Melissa Rivenbark of Washington, four step grandchildren, Owen Bey, Colin Rivenbark, Ryan Rivenbark, and Spencer Rivenbark.
