Win for Spanish conservatives in local elections as parliament election looms | Eastern NC Now

Local elections were held yesterday in Spain, and this morning the political map theree is mostly blue, the color of Spain's traditional conservative Popular Party (blue has been the political color of the rightt around the world for many years and red the color of the left). as they made major gains.  The populist / nationalist VOX party to their right also advanced, although in many places the Popular Party won majorities on its own and VOX's hopes to enter coalitions with the PP were dashed.  Socialist strongholds like province of Andalucia and teh city of Seville fell to either PP alone on coalitions of PP and VOX.  The capital of Madrid and its skurrounding province both fell to the PP.

Spain's national parliamentary election is due later this year, and the local election results are a good omen for a conservative victory there.  The big question is whether the PP can to it on its own or will it be a coalition with VOX.  Polls have been predicting a swing to the right, flipping the current socialist government into opposition, and the local election results are confirmation of what the polls have been saying.
