EU attempting to force Green Deal rules on non-member Norway | Eastern NC Now

may bring down Norway's government

ENCNow

The European Union is tryiing to force its Green Deal on non-member Norway, and one of the government coalition partners is strongly resisting. The issue may bring down Norway's coalition government.

Unlike most countries that joined the European Union, Norway's government gave its citizens a choice in a referendum and the citizens voted down EU membership.  Since then, Norway has had a relationship where it often coordinates policy with the EU but retains its own sovereignty.

The Center Party is opposing the EU's Green Deal mandate both as a bad policy and as an attack on Norway's sovereignty.  It's Labor Party coalition partner wants to knuckle under to the demand.  The EU is being very insistant that Norway conform, but the Center Party is standing its ground.  The Center Party is an agrarian party, long known as the Farmers Party.

Norway's Supreme Court last year ordered the shutdown of a major windfarm after its was sued by Sami nomadic reihdeer herders.  Norway is also a major oil and gas producer.

RINOs in the NC legislature have done worse to North Carolina on a Green New Deal than what the EU has done to itself. RINO legislative leaders Phil Berger and Tim Moore are mostly to blame, but local RINO state senator Jim Perry was a big player in pushing it, too.

The NC Green New Deal, HB951, requires a 70% reduction in CO2 by 2030, significantly more than the 50% required by the EU Green Deal. That will mean much more expensive electricity for NC ratepayers.

Norway is smart to be running away from this green nonsense. North Carolina needs to do so as well. And we need to defeat legislators responsible like Phil Berger and Jim Perry.
