News Release:

The School Nutrition Association (SNA) recently held its National School Breakfast Week. The 2013 theme, "Be a Star with School Breakfast" helped students understand how eating a healthy breakfast at school helps them shine like their favorite stars. The campaign was created by SNA with the generous support of Kellogg's Food Away from Home.

As a part of National School Breakfast Week, students were giving the opportunity to write about a special breakfast with the 'star' of their choice. The contest required students to answer two questions in less then 100 words each. The two questions were as follows:

    1. If you could enjoy school breakfast with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
    2. What healthy school breakfast food would you want to share and why?

Students from across Beaufort County submitted their entries to their school's cafeteria manager. During their March managers meeting students entries were reviewed and scored from grades 1to 6 and 7 to 12.

Northside High School is proud to announce that, Jamesa Davis, a junior was selected first place for grades 7 to12. Jamesa selected Michelle Obama as her breakfast star guest. Jamesa explained how she would like to show Michelle Obama that healthy and nutritious breakfast meals are available even right here in "little towns." Jamesa said, "Michelle is always on television trying to fight childhood obesity but by coming to a local school she can see that any schools cafeteria is not to blame."

Jamesa stated that her favorite breakfast was a sausage biscuit with grits and apple juice. Jamesa said, "It shows you can eat healthy and it still be good." Jamesa explained how the sausage was not greasy like most fast food places and the grits had no salt in them. Jamesa ended by saying that she does not want childhood obesity to be blamed on the schools, it is your choice outside of the school.
Jamesa was presented with a Barnes and Nobles Nook for her outstanding entry.
