Charles Andrew “Andy” Tingen | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Charles Andrew "Andy" Tingen passed away February 2nd, 2024, peacefully at his home in Washington, North Carolina.

    He was born on April 27th, 1956 in Roxboro, NC. He graduated from UNC School of Pharmacy, where he met his wife, Rebecca High Tingen, and was the Regent of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Public Health Administration from UNC Chapel Hill. He began his career at Duke University Medical Center and went on to work at hospital pharmacies in Hickory and Dunn, NC.

    He and his wife settled and raised a family in Washington, NC, where he worked as the Director of Pharmacy at Beaufort County Hospital for 33 years before retiring in August 2023.

    A beloved member of his community, he was known for his kindness, optimism, and rapier-like wit.

    He enjoyed history, poker with his Monday night group, UNC sports, playing golf, his Wednesday morning Bible study and prayer group, British murder mysteries, and spending time with friends and family.

    He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Andrew Tingen.

    He is survived by his wife, Becky Tingen; his sons, Drew Tingen and partner Sara Johnson of Raleigh, and Charlie Tingen of New York City; his mother, Lib Tingen of Roxboro; his brother, Tony Tingen of Raleigh; his sister-in-law, Margaret Nowell and husband, Al of Wilson; his brother-in-law, Larry High and wife, Beth of Rocky Mount; his brother-in-law Bob High and wife, Kathy of Wake Forest; and many nieces and nephews.

    A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 5th, 2024, at Ware's Chapel United Methodist Church in Washington, NC. Visitation will take place after the service in the fellowship hall.

    Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
