Betty Jean Barber Long | Eastern NC Now

    Betty Jean Barber Long, age 82, a resident of Williamston, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at her home.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Reddick's Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

    Betty was born on February 9, 1942, in Martin County to the late William Harry Barber, Sr. and Kathleen Bailey Barber. She was a 1960 graduate of Williamston High School. Betty retired in 1995 with 35 years of service as an administrative clerk with Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. She was a member of Reddick's Grove Baptist Church. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Samual R. Barber and William Harry Barber, Jr., and sister, Millie B. Wilmore.

    Survivors include, her husband, Gene R. Long of the home, whom she married on June 12, 1960; son, Keith R. Long, Sr. of Charlotte; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Keith R. Long, Jr., wife Kayla, and son Dwayne of Canton, Adam J. Long "AJ" and wife Shweta of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Evan C. Long, wife Kayla and son Ezra of Charlotte; brother Ricky L. Barber of Suffolk, VA; uncle Jasper E. Barber of Greensboro; several brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces and nephews.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Reddicks's Grove Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 1800 Reddick's Grove Church Road, Williamston, NC 27892.
