    Wilbur Allen Castellow, age 86, a resident of Washington, died Friday, May 17, 2024, at his home.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington. A private service will be held at a later date.

    Wilbur was born on May 23, 1937, in the Green Cross community of Bertie County, to the late Allen Drexel and Myrtle Aileen White Castellow. He graduated from Bertie High School, lettered in three sports. Wilbur served in the US Army for three years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He attended ECU and received his BA in 1961, and his MA in 1963. He played baseball at ECU for 2 years as third baseman. In 1963 he married the love of his life and best friend Sue Harris, who survives. Wilbur attended UNC and received his PhD in Psychology in 1971. He taught at ECU from 1964 to 1994, Wilbur was Head Chair of the Psychology Dept. at ECU from 1980 to 1990. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Gerald, and sister, Rose Outland.

    Wilbur was known for his athleticism, intelligence, gentle nature, and tolerance of others. He loved reading his entire life, playing tennis in his younger years, and playing golf, he was known for his six holes in one. Wilbur loved all sports.

    Survivors include in addition to his wife, son, Tad Castellow (Deana) of Washington, grandchildren, L.T. "Tad" Castellow (Anna) of San Diego, CA, Joel Castellow of Washington, and McKenna Gill (Connor) of Greenville, great grandchildren, Harris, Harvey, and Hallie, and many favorite nieces and nephews.
