    Christopher John Koegel of Chocowinity, NC died at home on July 18, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

    Born March 2, 1942 in Milwaukee to the late Janet and Alfred Koegel He grew up in East Troy the oldest of 9. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Karin, Kathy, Althea and brother Joe. Chris is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Louise Koegel, son Christopher G. (Carol), daughter Susan (Michael), 4 grandchildren Cassidy (Zack), Coulter, Jacqueline, Jessie, sisters Anne, Gretchen, Mary and brother Stephen.

    Chris grew up in his beloved East Troy, Wisconsin on Potters Lake. After high school, he enlisted in the army and served in the security agency. He returned to Milwaukee where he met the love of his life while working at the Milwaukee Yacht Club. Married for 60 years they lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey and retired in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

    Chris was a municipal bond trader and retired at the age of 54. After retirement he kept busy as a videographer, over-the-road truck driver, bar tender and construction worker as well as taking graduate level classes in theology. He was involved with a Catholic mission in Guatemala making numerous trips to the medical mission, including driving a school bus and an ambulance down to the mission.

    After moving to Chocowinity he became heavily involved with Cypress Landing Home Association. He loved playing golf, birding, sharing stories, photography, woodworking, and travel.

    A private family ceremony is being held. In his memory donations can be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in Washington, NC, in honor of the wonderful team who took such great care of him throughout his illness.
