    Mr. Marion Durell Allen, age 82, resident of 630 East Charles St., Grifton, NC died Friday July 12, 2013 at his home.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Davis Cemetery of the Pungo Community of Pantego, NC. Services will be officiated by Rev. Larry Gilbreth.

    Mr. Allen was born in Beaufort County on March 17, 1931 son of the late Guy L. Allen and the late Asia Belle Stotesberry. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On June 5, 1954 he married the former Nancy Ann Tatum who preceded him in death on January 28, 2006. He was a founding and life member of Grifton Rescue Squad and a member of First Baptist Church of Grifton.

    Mr. Allen is survived by a daughter: Deborah A. Howell and husband Robbie of Fremont, NC; two sons: Marion D. Allen, Jr. and wife Laura of Daytona Beach, FL and Raymond Allen of Grifton; a brother: Troy Allen and wife Dorothy of Meadowview, VA; two sisters: Nellie Sawyer of Scranton, NC and Annetta Smithwick and husband Charles of Grifton; three grandchildren: Stephen Howell of Fremont, NC, Samantha Rice of Pinetown, NC and Matthew Allen of Grifton and four great grandchildren. Mr. Allen was predeceased by two sisters: Ava Lewis and Oneva Allen.

    The family will receive friends at the home.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 519, Grifton, NC 28530.
