Josephine Griffin Parker | Eastern NC Now

    Josephine Griffin Parker, age 87 a resident of Archdale and formerly of Washington, NC, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at her home.

    A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Oakdale Cemetery with Wesley Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

    Josephine was born on June 11, 1937, in Beaufort County to the late Jimmie Griffin and Thelma Woolard Griffin. She was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School. In 1957 she married George "Bob" Robert Parker, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Verlie Singleton, Thelma Jean Griffin Buck and Dapherine Griffin Boyd, brothers, Jimmie and Sydney Earl Griffin, her animals she loved, Blue, Sydney, and Miss June.

    Josephine was a homemaker, but also trained as a surgical technician at Beaufort County Hospital for thirteen months. She worked at Beaufort County Hospital for six months and then moved to Boston, where she worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital from 1963 to 1984. In 1984 she moved to High Point, NC and worked at Wesley Hospital, and in 1988 she went to work at Novant Medical Center (Forsyth Medical Center) in Winston-Salem, NC where she retired in 2002. She worked in High Point until she retired again in May 2004.

    Josephine loved gardening, especially her roses and gardenias, she also loved doing ceramics, and making porcelain dolls. Josephine loved doing crafts and painting, knitting, cooking, and canning vegetables from her garden.

    Survivors include her daughter, Lisa June Parker Sexton (Robert) of Archdale, brother, James "Pete" Griffin (Barbara) of Oak Island, and many nieces, and nephews.
