    For Immediate Release:

Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory has requested the Office of State Budget and Management suspend dispersement of state grant money to the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center immediately. The governor also directed the Rural Center to stop spending public funds until it provides corrective action in light of the recent audit.

State Budget Director Art Pope sent a letter today outlining the governor's concerns to the Rural Center's Senior Vice President as well as legislative leaders.

Although it is a positive step for the Center's President Billy Ray Hall to resign, Governor McCrory suggests the Center's entire board review the audit and the Center's response. The state auditor said the Rural Center's response was "misleading."

If the Rural Center does not comply with the law immediately, the governor requests OSBM recover the public money held by the Center to ensure the funds are used for the original purpose of serving rural North Carolina.
