James Thomas Harris | Eastern NC Now

    James Thomas Harris, age 98, a resident of Raleigh, and formerly from the community known as Small in Beaufort County went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 9, 2024.

    A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:30 AM at White Hill FWB Church, 9204 Old Sandhill Road, Aurora, NC with Pastor Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

    James was born on May 10, 1926, in Beaufort County, to the late Stacy Thomas and Bertha Price Harris. He graduated from Aurora High School and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and in the US Army as a Sergeant 1st Class during the Korean War. James retired in 1988 as a District Sales Manager for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company. He loved people and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the VFW, Campbell's Creek Hunting Club and the LUTC Underwriters Association. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Williams and Jean Potter.

    Survivors include his wife of 74 years whom he adored, Frances Huber Harris, his children, Steve Harris (Barbara) and Karen Lawrence (Mike), and sisters, Dorothy Ireland and Myra Mayo. Family was everything to James and he spent countless hours with his grandchildren Jeana Schmidt (Corey), Brandon Lawrence (Angi), Phillip Harris (Sally), Stacey Jones (Adam), and Cassidy Stephenson (Martin) and eight great grandchildren.
