    Mrs. Esthalee Pipkin Smithwick, age 88, a resident of 72 Down Shore Road, Core Point died Thursday evening July 25, 2013 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

    A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday July 28, 2013 at the Core Point Cemetery and will be officiated by Pastor Ron Bousquet. Sonny Smithwick, Joseph Paul, Travis Martin, Mike Martin, Bill Burgess and Gary Martin will serve as pallbearers. Walter Martin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

    Mrs. Smithwick was born in Beaufort County on July 27, 1924, daughter of the late Andy Pipkin and Evora Wilkerson Pipkin. She was a graduate of Belhaven High School and attended Hunter College in New York. She served her country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. On July 15, 1946, she married Bryan W. Smithwick, Sr. who preceded her in death on November 21, 2009. Mrs. Smithwick was a housewife and volunteered at Beaufort County Hospital and the Aurora Medical Center.

    She is survived by her son: Bryan W. Smithwick, Jr. and wife Judy Tate Smithwick of Core Point and her granddaughter: Ambre Tate of New York, NY. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Andy Pipkin, Jr. and William Pipkin.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the home of her son, Bryan Smithwick located at 347 Down Shore Road.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Beaufort County Humane Society, P. O. Box 8, Washington, NC 27889.
