For Immediate Release:

Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory announced that the Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) has released monies for more than a dozen grants funded by the North Carolina Rural Economic Center. The grants total $734,344.18.

"Funds will be released as the Office of State Budget and Management determines the grants are in compliance with state laws and rules, and as they come due," said Governor McCrory. "The OSBM is working diligently in its review so that funds can be distributed in a timely manner."

The funds released for these 14 grants are the first of those due in August.

At the governor's request, OSBM froze Rural Center Funds after a state audit found the Rural Center failed to comply with the laws and rules governing its programs and grants. The audit also concluded the Rural Center's written response to the audit, "misled the reader" in regard to the major findings of the audit.

In part because of the audit findings, the General Assembly essentially defunded the Rural Center. Now a five-member Rural Center board committee is working with Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker on the transition of programs and grants to the Commerce Department.

The following is a list of the 14 compliant grants in which funds were released.
