William Durbin “Derby” Roberson | Eastern NC Now

    William Durbin "Derby" Roberson, age 78, a resident of Williamston, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

    A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a future date. The family will be receiving visitors at their home in Williamston.

    Derby was born on October 5, 1946, in Durbin, WV, to the late Henry Albert Roberson and Mary Agnes Roberson. He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School and a US Army Vietnam Veteran (Special Forces). After the war he joined the Iron Workers Union Local 79 (Virginia Beach, VA) and then later Local 28 (Midlothian, VA) he retired in 1996. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Civil War historian but most importantly he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. On June 30, 1993, he married Joanne Ange. She was the love of his life, his angel. He loved spending time with his family and his girls!

    Survivors include his wife, Joanne Ange Roberson of the home, daughter, Tracey Hopkins (John) of Williamston, granddaughter, Miranda "Baby Girl" Dudley (Gavin) of Williamston and his great granddaughter, Hartley Grace "Opie" Dudley. His loving sisters, Irene Cain of Sarasota, Florida and Maggie Morin of Sherwood, Oregon. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

    He was preceded in death by his two sons, Jamie Godard and Travis Roberson.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
