Join me in telling Gov. McCrory to veto the disturbing election law changes that the legislature passed on its last day of session. | Eastern NC Now

We’re proud in North Carolina to have laws that encourage people to register and vote while maintaining the integrity of our elections.

Publisher's note: This was sent to me by Attorney General Roy Cooper, not because I am the publisher of one of the most important news and information sites in northeastern North Carolina, but because he somehow thinks I am a Democrat. Oddly, I am listed in the Democrat database as one of the faithful. Remember the "Dear Friends" missives of the past.

And while NC AG Roy Cooper may seem to be quite a boob for not knowing that this 5 time elected Republican County Commissioner is very secure in his Conservative skin, the NC GOP are even bigger boobs for not finding someone to take out this extra liberal Candidate Obama advocate, and close supporter.

Regardless of the obvious, we publish all press releases from all politicians, irrespective of their ultra liberal tendencies. If one takes the time to read the Attorney General's advice, one might also see the hilarious irony of Mr. Cooper's political mentoring. And if you know me, you know that I always publish what is funny, where I find it.

News Release:

We’re proud in North Carolina to have laws that encourage people to register and vote while maintaining the integrity of our elections.

But HB 589 goes backward and actually makes it harder for people to register and vote.

Here’s how it would do damage:

    1. Cut short early voting, giving us longer lines on Election Day and making it harder for working people to vote.

    2. Stop pre-registration for young people who want to vote for the first time.

    3. Prohibit people who go to the wrong precinct from casting a provisional ballot there. Precinct confusion happens a lot after redistricting.

    4. Enforce a voter ID law so restrictive that a student can't even use a college ID.

There are more disturbing election law changes in this bill that will reduce access to the polls and lead to expensive lawsuits that North Carolina doesn't need.

It's wrong to make it more difficult for North Carolinians to register and vote. I’ve asked Governor McCrory to veto this bill and I hope you will too.

Should North Carolina continue to end voter fraud or should North Carolina coddle protected classes since powerful Democrats believe that this class of the electorate cannot function as normal people do?
30.04%   No, protected classes of our citizenry deserve special dispensations.
39%   Yes, the act of voting is a right for all of our citizens and voter fraud negates that right.
30.96%   I don't vote because it isn't fun.
