German election: AfD's Alice Weidel now leads after Elon Musk endorsement

Elon Musk's tweet endorsing Germany's populist nationalist anti-immigration Alternativ fur Deutschland (AfD) has seen the AfD's chancellor candidate Alice Weidel pull into the lead in polling for the first time. Friedrich Merz of the tradtional conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is second. Musk tweeted "only the AfD can save Germany."

The latest poll by the major German pollster INSA, taken for the leading German daily newspaper Bild was conducted after Musk's endorsement and before the Christmas market terror attack in Magdeburg. While a separate poll is taken regularly by INSA on voting intentions by party, this poll was focused on who people wanted to see as Chancellor. Since the Musk endorsement, Weidel gained three points to 24% while Merz lost a point to 20%.

The backlash of the German public to the Magdeburg Christmas market attack is likely to also work in the AfD's favor. When outgoing Social Democrat Chancellor Scholz appeared in public in connection with the attack, he was booed. There are already demonstrations in Magdeburg and now spreading across Germany with protesters demanding "Deportation Now". The attacker was a Saudi Arabian citizen and asylum activist who had been given asylum in Germany as a refugee years ago and posted online recently about his intention of "killing Germans indiscriminately".

The parties that behave as Nazis are the ones that want to jail citizens for criticizing the politicians. The CDU under Merkel is who passed that totalitarian anti-free speech law originally, but now the Social Democrats and especially the Green Party want to supercharge it. Those are your real Nazis. Free speech is the essential cornerstone of democracy. The AfD strongly supports it. The CDU, and especially the Greens and Social Democrats want to goose step all over it.

One law still on the books from the Nazis is Hitler's 1938 Reich Gun Law, and that needs to be repealed. Germans need the same gun rights as Swiss and Czechs, especially with the rise of migrant knife crime. Or even the same level as French and Austrians.

This social media post was made, written in Arabic, by the Saudi terrorist who committed the Magdeburg Christmas market attack:

"Is there a path to justice in Germany without bombing a German embassy or slaughtering German citizens indiscriminantly? I have been looking for this peaceful way since January 2019 and I have not found it. If anyone knows, please guide me. Read the details in my tweet series to be shocked by the crimes committed by Germany against Saudi refugees and the obstruction of justice no matter how much evidence we provide them."

In short, the terrorist undertook "slaughtering German citizens indiscriminantly" in retaliation for what he considered "crimes committed by Germany against Saudi refugees".
