John Cotton Manning | Eastern NC Now

    John Cotton Manning, age 78, a resident of Pamlico Beach, died Monday, January 13, 2025, at his home.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Cotton was born on April 28, 1946, in Pitt County, to the late Herman Leroy Manning and Myrtle Ruth Williams Manning. He attended Grifton High School and Barton College and obtained two associate degrees from Pitt Community College. He served in the US Army during Vietnam. Cotton was an estimator in the construction industry, he also had worked for NCDOT Ferry Division and the NC Dept. of Corrections. He was very loved and a dear member of the community and Lifegate Free Will Baptist Church. Cotton enjoyed fishing and shooting pool. On July 2, 1998, he married Lovell Irene McAlister. He was preceded in death by his brother Phillip Manning.

    Survivors include his wife, Lovell Manning of the home, children, Jack Manning (Kathy) of Asheville, Ellis Siddons (Blake) of Newport, Kristen Kinney (Ron) of Scottsdale, AZ, Maegan Aoki (Tyson) of Tree Mountain, UT, Cindy Wolfe (Kevin) Raleigh, sisters, Cynthia Worthington of Kinston and Janice Worthington of Winston Salem, grandchildren, 1st Lieut. Jordan McLeod, Adam Thomas Kinney, Grayson Michael Kinney, Allie Aoki, G.K. Aoki, Lovell Aoki, William Scott Miller, Paisley Marie Manning, Ashe Manning, Phelm Manning and Evelyn Ruth Siddons.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930-A Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
