Carol Jones Elks | Eastern NC Now

    Carol Jones Elks, age 81, a resident of Chocowinity, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center.

    A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Harbor Church, 2895 US 17 South in Chocowinity, with Pastor Johnny Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

    Carol was born on September 26, 1943, in Beaufort County to the late John Richard Jones, Jr. and Bertha Mae Godley Jones. She attended Chocowinity High School and Dell School of Medical Technology. On August 5, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Allen Ray Elks. They lived in several places in North Carolina before settling in Edenton in the early 1970s. Ray preceded her in death on January 29, 1988. Carol worked as a laboratory technician in Edenton until 1991, before moving to Greenville and opening a home daycare. She fully retired in 1999. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, sewing and listening to music. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and friends and spreading the love of Jesus with everyone around her.

    Survivors include her daughters, Susan Cox (John) of Holly Springs and Carol Lynn Rose (Charlie) of Chocowinity; sister, Vivian Briley (Henry) of Greenville; grandchildren, Emily Springer (Josh), Grace Rose Tripp (Dylan) and Will Rose (Faith); great grandchild, Camden Tripp; her local cousins, Liz Motteler, Linda Lewis, Patricia Toler, and Sylvia Youmans; and many other family and friends who love her.
