Melva Rae Watford Whitaker | Eastern NC Now

    Melva Rae Watford Whitaker, age 86, a resident of Washington, NC died Thursday February 6, 2025 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation.

    A service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday February 9, 2025 at First Church of Christ in Washington and will be officiated by Ronnie Woolard and Phillip Alligood. Graveside to follow with family and friends at Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jonathan Sullivan, Justin Sullivan, Colemon Watford, Neal Alligood, Eric Woolard and Erika Sullivan. Honorary pallbearer includes Sierra Cutler Lewis.

    Mrs. Whitaker was born in Beaufort County on July 7, 1938 to David Watford and Buleah Woolard Watford. She was a graduate of Roanoke Bible College (now Mid-Atlantic Christian University). Mrs. Whitaker is a retired bookkeeper with Roanoke Bible College and First Church of Christof Washington. She was a member of First Church of Christ of Washington.

    Survivors include her brother, Richard "Ric" Watford and wife Wanda of Pinetown, a niece, Donna C. Sullivan and husband Keith, three nephews, Cameron Watford and wife Libby; David Todd Cutler and wife Nikki, Colemon https://estudiosociologicos.org/portal/ Watford and wife Lacey, two great nephews, Jonathan Ray Sullivan, Justin Dale Sullivan, five great nieces, Erika Lynn Sullivan, Sierra Cutler Lewis, Ava Everette, Cabella Sullivan, and Trinity Sullivan, and one great-great niece, Parker Lewis.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Dale Whitaker, her mother, Buleah Gray Woolard Watford, her father, David Watford, a sister Leara Watford Cutler, and a brother-in-law, Donald Ray Cutler.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Atlantic Christian University, 715 N. Poindexter Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
