    Joan Williams Hanson, age 81, a resident of Washington, died, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

    The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the home, 4671 US Hwy 17 N, Washington, NC.

    Joan was born on February 14, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Ellwood Williams and Sally Bette Stokes Williams. She graduated from West Port High School in 1962. She attended Beaufort County Community College in the Child Development Program. Joan was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She served as Commander of the DAV Auxiliary in Washington. Joan loved nature, playing cards, traveling, and reading. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother Henry Griffin.

    Survivors include her children, Milissa Hartmann (Brian) of Washington, Frank E. Hanson, III (Candis) of Washington, John D. Hanson (Karen) of Wisconsin and Diana Wheatley (Bill) of NC, sister, Antoinette Ferguson (Bill) of Kansas City, Kansas, grandchildren, Kearah, Chelsea, Olivia, Korey, Johnna, Ashley, Annalea, Joshua, Isla, Henry, Declan and Issabell, great grandchildren, Keagen, Tavin, Jaxen, Taelynn, Corbin and Landyn.
