    Mrs. Shelby Jean Taylor Hodges, age 84, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday June 10, 2025 at her home.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Saturday June 14, 2025 at Fifteenth Street Church of God in Washington and will be officiated by Minister Jim Roberson and Pastor Mike Bayer. Burial will follow in Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery. Darren Woolard, Kyle Hodges, Seth Hodges, Jacob Squires, Ottis Crisp, and Howard Lilley will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the funeral hour at the church.

    Mrs. Hodges was born in Beaufort County on March 3, 1941, to the late John Griffin and Claudia Sutton Taylor. On August 29, 1964, she married James Ervin Hodges, Sr. She worked as a cafeteria worker in Beaufort County Schools. Mrs. Hodges enjoyed gardening, flowers, decorating, feeding the deer and squirrels, and working with the mission group at the church. She was a member of Fifteenth Street Church of God.

    Survivors include her three children, Teresa Shamberger and husband John, of Washington, Marty Hodges and wife Sandy of Washington, Gary Hodges and wife Sherry of Wilson, two stepchildren, Paulette Cole and husband Buddy, Anna Marie Nobles and husband Tunnie, ten grandchildren, Kirk Roberson, Courtney Hodges, Sydney Squires, Carmen Hodges, Taylor Woolard, Seth Hodges, Kyle Hodges, Abby Hodges, Danielle Hodges, Selina Hodges, seven great grandchildren, a brother, John Taylor, three sisters, Terry Connor, Rita Fernandez, and Helen Taylor.

    She is preceded in death by her husband James Ervin Hodges, Sr. two sons, Larry Hodges, Jimmy Hodges, and a sister, Thelma Chauncey.
