Mrs. Sandra Dean McKoy, 69, of Chocowinity, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center following a short illness.

    Mrs. Sandra Dean McKoy, 69, of Chocowinity, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center following a short illness.

    A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11am at the First Christian Church of Washington with Dr. Michael Price and the Rev. Chad Penhorwood officiating. Private entombment will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.

    A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Sandra was born to the late Merritt and Evelyn Dean on July 11, 1944. She grew up in Blackshear, Georgia and was a 1966 graduate of the University of Georgia. Sandra worked as a juvenile probation officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia, retiring after 30 years of service.

    Sandra was an active member of First Christian Church of Washington where she served as a trustee, a member of the diaconate and was a very active member of the Christians in Action group. In addition, Sandra served as a volunteer at the North Carolina Estuarium for nearly 9 years. She was an avid reader, a true book lover and was an active member of the Tea and Topics Book Club.

    Sandra is survived by: husband of 37 years, Joseph Ellis McKoy; son, Jeffrey Dean Neblett and wife, Katherine, of Raleigh; and beloved grandchildren, Emily and Abby.

    The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:30-8PM at First Christian Church in Washington.

    Flowers are welcome but Sandra would much prefer memorial contributions to: First Christian Church Christians in Action group, 401 East 2nd Street, Washington, NC 27889.
