    Lydia Grey Lawhead, age 98, a resident of Washington, died Sunday, November 30th, 2025 at the Williamston House.

    The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Friday at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington. A private burial will follow.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1732 N. Market St., Washington, NC 27889.

    Lydia was born on June 24th, 1927, in Pitt County to the late William L. Harris and Elsie Stokes Harris. After a number of years of being employed with Dupont, she retired. Lydia loved traveling, playing golf, and had a fondness for cats. Shopping and going out to eat were two of her favorite things to do. She was known by all for her generosity.

    Throughout Lydia's life, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Farmville, Greenville and Washington, NC. She loved to talk to anyone who would listen about her God, Jehovah including her nurses right up until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Joe Lawhead, her daughter, Sharon Anne McDowell, her brother, William Gene Harris and her sister Hazel Lee Harris.

    Survivors include three grandchildren, Renee Dawn McRoy, wife to Billy McRoy, Geoffrey Kyle McDowell, husband to Yonica McDowell and Aaron Shane McDowell, husband to Talyna McDowell.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Worldwide Work at www.jw.org.

    Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the McDowell and McRoy families.
