The “Countdown 2 Drive” Teen Drivers Program provides an opportunity to learn about graduated driver’s license laws, the importance of role models for safe driving behaviors, communication, and parent-teen driving agreements.

In support of Teen Safe Driving Week – October 18-26, 2013

Who:     Safe Kids Pitt County and the Eastern Carolina Injury Prevention Program at Vidant Medical Center, in partnership with State Farm, the NC Highway Patrol and the Greenville Police Department
What:     Free safe driving program for students ages 14-20 and their parents
When:     Wednesday, Oct. 23
Time and location:     6-7:30 p.m.

    The “Countdown 2 Drive” Teen Drivers Program provides an opportunity to learn about graduated driver’s license laws, the importance of role models for safe driving behaviors, communication, and parent-teen driving agreements.

    Trooper Doug Coley of the NCSHP and Sgt. Michael Montanye of the Greenville Police Department will provide important information to parents and students that will be drivers or are already driving.

    Participants will have the opportunity to win a gas card.

    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens. According to Ellen Walston, Safe Kids Pitt County coordinator, “We want to implement evidence based programs that will save the lives of our teen drivers. We know that our crash rates are extremely high in Pitt County. Education and interventions among parents and students can make a difference.”
