Cathy Sutton Murphy | Eastern NC Now

    Cathy Sutton Murphy, 66, of Washington, North Carolina, entered into the presence of the Lord on May 14, 2026. She was born on October 17, 1959, in Washington, NC, to Lindsay and Betty Lou Sutton.

    Cathy is survived by her son, Michael Lilley and wife, Amanda, of Washington; her daughter, Pam Everette and husband, Scott, of Washington; and her six beloved grandchildren, Mica, Caitlyn, Emily, Hunter, Gavin, and Asher. She is also survived by her two sisters, Debra and Lynn; two nieces; and three nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsay and Betty Sutton, and the love of her life, Maurice Murphy.

    Cathy will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to her family, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. She was deeply involved in animal rescue and was known for her love of family and the Lord. Above all, she treasured being "Granny" to her grandchildren.

    A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Alligood Church of God, with Pastor Gary Bateman officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Cody White, Logan White, Ashton White, Joe White, Lavern Morris, and Joe Lovitt.
