southeastern NC citizens tell county commissioners to remove Flock surveillance cameras | Eastern NC Now

At New Hanover County Commission in Wilmington

ENCNow

Citizens turned out in droves at a meeting of the New Hanover County Commission in Wilmington, NC to demand removal of Flock surveillance cameras from the county.  It was a bi-partisan crowd and among the 41 outraged citizens who spoke against Flock, the star was clearly a conservative Republican beekeeper, Barry Harris.

The New Hanover Sheriffs Department operates 19 of the Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, and citizens who value their privacy want them GONE.  Some of these spy cameras also collect information on electronic devices such as cell phones on cars that pass by.  Numerous cities around the country have already been de-Flocked by local governments prohibiting the systems.

One remembers the slogan from Orwell's "1984" of "Big Brother is Watching You".  Flock is now a public-private partnership "Big Brother" that is invading the privacy of Americans.  Their system creates a database from all of their spy cameras across America, and they can take a license plate and make a printout of every time it has passed one of their spy cameras.  Already, there have been multiple cases around the country of people in law enforcement using access to those databases to stalk current or former romantic partners. One such case was in Charlotte, NC.

Presently, there are only two Flock spy cameras in Beaufort County, at the two entrances of Lowes in Washington.  Flock is essentially a "public-private partnership" KGB and is un-American in the extreme.

Here is one of the latest examples of a law abiding citizen suffering great harm from this Flock system.  Such people ought to be able to sue the pants off of Flock and whoever put their license plate in the system.

UPDATE: Conservative Texas Governor Greg Abbott has cut off state funding for the controversial Flock surveillance cameras.

Have y'all read or heard about the angle that Lenoir County is using to change public opinion on Flock cameras?

They used one to find a missing man, allegedly.

Watch how this goes and take notes on the public response. The political handlers are upset that people are calling them out on their bullshit and standing up to the privacy of the community being violated.

Common sense folks are calling things as they see them and it ain't sitting well with the "powers that be". Many of them know they're royally screwed especially in the polls of public opinion.

Flock cameras seem to be something that the right and left agree on. I knew there had to be something.

We should remember that it was our own Representative Keith Kidwell who blocked authorization of these license plate readers in the NC House for years. Finally, the RINOs pushing the things took advantage of an excused medical absence of Kidwell to slip the license plate readers as a committee substitute into a bill at the last minute while he was out to get it past him. Kidwell has been a stalwart in protecting our rights and freedoms.

It is sickening that we have this Stalinist police state crap right here in NC and even in Beaufort County.

The City of Greenville felt some substantial heat from informed citizens over the issue of Flock cameras. It was substantial enough that a public press release was put out on social media.

The Washington City Council should be taking notes on this as it's an issue that they will have to face the remaining voters on. This isn't a partisan matter, it's a matter of common sense.

If they drop the ball and continue to allow our data to be stored, sold and distributed.....they just need to pack it up and go back to the house.

There are two Flock license plate reader cameras at Lowes, one near the highway at each of the entrances. They have solar panels on top for power and are painted black so you don't notice them. They send the data on every license plate that enters Lowes to the national computer bank operated by Flock and stored there. Some Flock systems also collect data on electronic devices like cell phones that may be in each car, but it is not certain if these cameras have that capability. All of them record licenses plates and send that data to Flocks national database.

Did he say Lowe’s sends your license plate info somewhere?
