Excuse me, but Ted Cruz was not born in the US, he was born in Canada. So where are all the birthers now? I smell hypocrisy. Just sayin'.

Commented on Dueling Hits - The Everly Brothers - 1958Thanks, Stan. Everly Brothers, it don't get no better than that. Brings back memories of first real boyfriend, close dancing, sneaking cigarettes. Today's music (in fact, I don't even call it music) is the worst ever; hard to imagine inspiring nostalgia.

Commented on It has Begun: A Parade of Presidential CandidatesI was mistaken in my 4/12 comment about Tenet Healthcare. They paid $900 mill, not $96 mill.

Commented on It has Begun: A Parade of Presidential CandidatesJeb Bush served on the Board for Tenet Health Care, and made millions, while Tenet was being prosecuted for massive Medicare fraud. They paid $96 mill in fines, one of the largest fines ever paid.

Commented on Hillary B. Clinton is NOT ElectableSo, am I to understand that you only care about hillary, the undeclared but likely democratic nominee, having her own server and only releasing self selected emails, but you don't care about jeb, the undeclared republican nominee having his own server and only releasing self selected emails?

Commented on Hillary B. Clinton is NOT ElectableGuess you don't care that Jeb Bush also had his own private server, and only released "self-selected" emails. Little hypocrisy here? Why don't you man up and do some unbiased commentary?

Commented on Hillary B. Clinton is NOT ElectableWhy not a single comment about the 47 treasonable republican signers of the letter to Iran? Clear illegal attempt to undermine executive. Citizens cannot negotiate with foreign leaders - even Iran agrees! Interesting that you want to get all over hillary, but totally ignore republican traitors. They should be tried for treason.

Commented on Commissioner Richardson Questions Rules of Procedure While Representing his ConstituentsStan, I cannot believe the way you spin Hood's rude, aggressive, confrontational, argumentative behavior. He wasn't doing anything except looking for a fight-any fight. You, of all people so critical of the WDN for biased reporting, should be vigilant about yours. Even you cannot excuse him from twice calling the Chairman "your Majesty". His behavior violates the Rules of Procedure and Ethics policy. Would you allow your kids to behave that way? Failure to call his behavior continues to enable it. Like it or not, he and and his Republican friends, especially the Stop the Jail group, are closely associated, so it's difficult to respect them when they excuse his behavior, and weakens their ability to further their agenda. You may find his behavior amusing, but is this the behavior we truly want to represent our County?

Commented on Local Hospitals Face Medicare PenaltiesBetty, thank you for this excellent article. This is just the kind of info folks need to have. Good job! You also raised an excellent point, that as wellness programs get better at keeping folks out of the hospital there will be less revenue for them. There will be even more pressure on hospitals to get these hospital-acquired complications under control. When you consider that tons of research has consistently demonstrated that the single most effective way to prevent infections is handwashing, these are huge penalties resulting from not enforcing a cheap, low tech no-brainer procedure. Why pay millions in penalties just because your staff won't wash their hands? These complications (infections, bedsores, etc) can be prevented by the simplest actions: wash hands, turn patients and give good skin care, get patients out of bed and ambulating. All the fancy, expensive, high-tech equipment and computers will never substitute for good old-fashioned basic, cheap patient care that has always been proven to be the most effective at preventing complications. None of this knowledge is a secret. It's taught in every health professional's training and is in every texrbook. In hospital's search for the latest and greatest they've lost sight of what works;the simple, basic stuff. Keep your patient well hydrated, turn them frequently, give good skin care, make sure they eat, get them out of bed and moving (even those on ventilators in the ICU can be gotten out of bed). No patient in a hospital should ever get a bedsore! These hospitals are learning some very expensive lessons.

Another big factor is sports. Gone are the days of the STUDENT-athlete.Too many schools value the athletic program and winning seasons over academics, as evidenced by special classes and unusual grading techniques designed to keep athletes on the team, thereby fooling them and us into thinking they're getting a good education. Don't get me wrong, I love my college sports, and I think athletic competition teaches invaluable lessons, but when a school is primarily known for its sports teams, and education takes a very back seat, then it' no wonder its graduates are so unemployable.

In my previous comments on this issue I forgot to add that I did not even know that there had been a TV story. I don't watch that channel. A couple of days after the story aired someone told me about it, so I looked it up. That'the first time I saw Josh Birch. I then called him up and introduced myself and told him about the Observer story. That is the only contact I have had with him

Regarding the post of 10/6/14 by the Beaufort Observor Editorial Team referencing the County Commissioner meeting of 10/1/14, here's the real truth.
1. Whomever they call their "sources", they need to validate those "sources", as do legitimate journalists. Considering what they say their "sources" say, I've come to the opinion that it's all made up. Certainly, no one from the Observor contacted me. A phone call and a few minutes of their time would have revealed that their statements were untrue. 2. Their "sources" say the Channel 9 story was "an attempted setup orchestrated by the Republican Club, using one of its prime antagonists" (me). To borrow from the McCarthy witch hunts, I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of the Republican Club (not that there's anything wrong with it). No one from that Club, or anyone else, for that matter, Democrat or Republican, has ever had anything to do with preparing my comments. After doing my own independent research, I write them all by myself at my kitchen table. I am solely responsible for my public comments, and my actions. Those who know me would never believe that I was anyone's puppet. 3. I have no idea who Josh Birch is. As far as I know, I've never met him, or talked with him; wouldn't know him if he were standing right next to me. I never "duped" anyone into anything. If Mr. Birch is a responsible journalist, as I presume him to be, he would not allow himself to be "duped" into anything by anyone, either. 3. The worst lie is that "Birch used video supplied by Vasquez". I never saw (except on TV), touched, sent, checked out from the library, supplied, or in any manner had possession of, or distributed the video in question to anyone. Outright lie! I challenge you to prove that I did. 4. I'm assuming this "made up" story is in response to my public comments, which obviously hit too close to home. All of the facts I presented are true, and are a matter of public record. Anything that is just my opinion is labeled as such. Remember, it's not slander or libel if it's true. It's too bad the truth hurts y'all so much. 5. You have libeled me and I take that very seriously. I'm putting you on notice that I am to be contacted in advance, regarding any items referencing me. They are to be factually correct, validated with reliable sources, and withstand legal scrutiny prior to publication.
