Publisher's Note: This article originally appeared in the Beaufort Observer.
We, and other local media outlets, have reported that Fountain Powerboats has closed shop. That appears to be confirmed by a simple observation of but six vehicles in the company's employee parking lot on October 17, 2011. Calls from us to John Walker, Operations Manager, in returning earlier contacts via email, again went unreturned. Mr. Walker, in Feedback comments to earlier articles in the Observer, in addition... The company that the Beaufort County Economic Developer Tom Thompson touted as the savior of Fountain has now pulled out. Trade Only Today, a trade publication for the marine industry, is reporting: Libert... (read more) |

The first decade of the 21st Century for North Carolina was a difficult one. In terms of the state’s economic condition, many may label it a lost decade. Lost jobs, lost fiscal restraint by state government, lost opportunities for spending reform, and more lost ground in terms of worker pay. These topics all dominated North Carolina’s economic landscape dur... (read more)

Everybody needs a Ferris Bueller day off - even Wikipedia. Unlike Ferris, who could make the most of any moment, the management of Wikipedia just has something to say, and it is a most narrow message. Like Ferris's best friend, the lonesome Cameron, Google is reluctantly going along for the ride.
Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia's founder and CEO, took the ever popular Wikipedia down for a 24 hour period to protest the proposed anti-piracy bill, currently under consideration, in the United States Congr... (read more)

recent filing outlines the issues, but doesn't give a clue about when they will be settled The lawyers are having a field day with the Fountain issue. Meanwhile, it appears when one rides by the plant on Whichard's Beach Road that little is going on there. The parking lot remains mostly empty. But there has been a recent development of interest to those who are tracking the story. On March 8, 2011 Reggie Founta... (read more) |

This means you are probably not investing in the United States equities markets, or you are a "high frequency trader," and you're loving the volatility; however, for the vast majority of us, who struggle to invest in this most uncertain environment, we just know the high anxiety of certain risk.
And cer... (read more)
