With a few public hearings; a few school board meetings on this closure; a few county commissioner meetings, where Republican commissioners brought up this issue in an attempt to stop closure, the only school board members that I am aware of that spoke to the issue of saving Snowden was Charles Hickman, and, to a lesser extent, Stacey Davis.
Am I missing something here? As a county commissioner, on extra important issues such as saving a school, I always publicly speak whenever I have the opportunity to do so. Did Terry Williams speak in favor of saving Snowden School?

That heading could have added that it was Communist Chinese STUDENTS trying to smuggle in that agricultural bioweapon, and they were graduate students at that. The Trump administration is on the right track in trying to kick out many of these Red Chinese students. Who knows what other mischief they are up to. And then we have universities like Harvard that are in bed with China.

I hear Terry Williams may also be pushing Savvas again. He voted right on Snowden, against closing it so maybe he will come around on curriculum issues, too.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineThe scuttlebutt I heard was that the phosphate company wants to mine under the town of Aurora and this was a scheme to help make the town go away. Probably just a conspiracy theory but who knows. This dirty deal on their school will kick Aurora in the ass, something Cheeseman and the school board members had to know. They stabbed our people and children in the back.

Commented on Beating the Dead School HorseI made that statement Tongue-in-cheek, John Steed, but it turned out to be true. Where were Elthel Booth, Ed Booth, and Jerry Langly on defending the underserved in Richland Township? Let'em ride the bus.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineI apologize to the general public for supporting and working to elect these no-votes to the School Board. This turned out to be a real mistake. I pray that we will be able to find competent replacements for them in the next election. What about the County Commission and dollars over people? Look at their surplus funds and the recent Reval. Where is the heart of Elthel Booth, School Board; Ed Booth and Jerry Langly, County Commission, who should be champions for the predominantly black students in Snowden. All voted to close the school. Let's be sure that those who go to vote next time never forget. Did this bunch drink the Frankie Waters Kool-Aid on more school consolidation, along with Cheeseman? They just drove the nail in the coffin for Aurora and Created a nightmare for first graders riding a school bus.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineSomeone needs to look deeper at the closing of Snowden Elementary School. This will kill Aurora. Why the push to kill a town? Is it because of the amount of phosphate under the town? Is this to help benefit Nutrien the largest employer in Beaufort County?
Just a feeling but it seems there is more to this than just the school since it will affect the entire town and the future of the town.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineCheeseman got the gold mine. The parents, taxpayers, and students got the shaft. Cheeseman's gold mine is another resume entry on consolidation for his next job in a bigger, better paying school system. Everybody else gets a more screwed up school system., but the shaft is a particularly deep one for the people of Aurora and Richland Township.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineJohn Valley: Yesterday, the following message is one that I texted all Republican School Board Members that came to the Conservative Republican Club asking for that club's political support:
"DO NOT fall into the political abyss of closing Snowden. This is such an extremely obvious vote, with so much on the line for Aurora, you will not survive this politically if you vote to close yet another community school. No one will, when all the other stupid votes the school board has made is factored in; I mean egregiously stupid. Just DO NOT do it."

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a Spine"Conspiracy theorists"-1
GOP-0 tha It seems to me that the Beaufort County GOP is as organized as a "charity" concert on Sunday afternoon. Instead of having a decently unified party, we have a handful of people, that stacked both fronts with autocratic money/land/political barons, who are out of touch with reality and lack common sense. This is a s*** strategy and an even worse endgame scenario for everyone. Jacked up property taxes, a clownshow of a school system and decreasing population certainly doesn't signify positive movement. This is what happens when the retirement community becomes run by the retirees who moved to it.....unprecedented shenaniganry and stupidity both in full force.

The debate over the social studies curriculum is a major one. It was fought out at the state level on the state Board of Education a few years ago in a partisan and ideological confrontation, the leftwing Democrat appointees of Roy Cooper on one side and the Republican State Treasurer and Lieutenant Governor on the other. The Republicans actively fought that curriculum as being "woke" and full of DEI and CRT, both far left doctrines. There were more Cooper appointees, so they prevailed.
It is a curriculum that adheres to that leftwing state DPI version that the superintendent is trying to ram through. Any real Republican would take the same stand our state Board of Education Republicans did to oppose it. Polls show that 71% of NC parents are concerned about political or ideological indoctrination of their children in the classroom, which is exactly the concern about this curriculum. The legal staff at the General Assembly advised Representative Kidwell that the state DPI or state Board of Education did not have authority to dictate what local curriculum a local school board adopted or restrict what they adopted. The local board has full authority to adopt whatever curriculum in their judgment will meet their educational objectives. The education establishment feels differently, but that is because they are grasping for control. As to the science curriculum, there is an additional important issue, which is teaching both sides of the climate debate rather than indoctrinating on the globalist narrative on CO2. Superintendents are always going to push for following what the education establishment wants because that is in their best peraonal career advancement interests.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineMaybe some of those "Rs" are really Undocumented Democrats. Well, actually more than just "maybe".
It is telling that both school board members whose district's schools were impacted by this voted against it. Why are school board members whose district's schools are not impacted doing this to the southside schools? That is outrageous. Stacey Davis was the only board member on the north side of the river not to suck up to Boss Cheeseman.

This was a back room deal of the first order, with a majority of the school board and the Center/Left-Left Coalition county commissioners in league to continue to damage education here in Beaufort County.

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineDaniel Hudson has been a Cheeseman bootlicker all the way. He postured as a conservative in the last election to pull the wool over voters eyes, then immediately became a Cheeseman yes man. He is a phony as a three dollar bill.
What is sad is the betrayal of Carlton and Shreve. If they had voted as conservatives, Snowden would have been saved. Both of them have betrayed their campaign supporters. And why? Did Cheeseman threaten schools in their districts?

Commented on The Closing of S. W. Snowden Elementary School Appears to be a Done Deal – Unless the School Board Grows a SpineBy a 4 (Center/Left - Left Coalition) to 3 (Republicans) the Beaufort County Commissioners voted to support the School Board's decision, by NOT interfering by the offering of generous monetary incentive to remain open.
The back room deals are cut; the RINOs win again. Political Analysis: Beaufort County better elect more real Republicans, and keep the real Republicans that are currently elected.
