Stan: I have been watching from afar as this Big Bob character attempts to hijack this public square of thought and reason by writing some truly crazy things, and his pure slander was atrocious.
I really like this public platform, but that Big Bob character was really starting to piss me off. You were right to rid this publication of this "Village Idiot." One more thing: Big Bob is no Republican, or, maybe, could he just be one of the stupid variety that so plentiful in these parts?

Journalism in the era of Wells was a very different thing than today. In those days, they were more like to do real journalism than today when so many in the media are propagandists rather than real journalists. Unfortunately today, so many media workers are into what they call "advocacy journalism" which is really nothing but pure propaganda. A real journalist tries to tell both sides, something their modern bretheren usually do not, at least in the US MSM. In some foreign countries, real journalism does seem to survive.

CDU leader Merz has not even waited 24 hours to sell out German voters on illegal immigration. In his campaign, he said "permanent border controls" would be "imposed on day one" which would "refuse all attempts at illegal entry". Now, in seeking a "grand coalition" with the Social Democrats, Merz has declared that "none of us is talking about border closures". Already social media is full of comments on Merz' betrayal of the German people (which is risky to do in Germany because people can be arrested for critizing politicians). europeanconservative.com

Van Zant: Big Bob is a classic Leftist; a fool employing the misdirection of real words, poorly applied, that present a surreal world built within his faulty and surreal premise that people, who are true Conservatives, are inherently evil because of their identifying markers.
Could Big Bob also be fake Republican, a knockoff Republican, a RINO? I pray not; however, there are some truly ignorant Republicans, some here locally in the BC GOP, who have wished that their weak, crazed and hypothetical desires for their political party would be one that would construct a political platform of ideals that other disgruntled Democratic Socialists could hopefully embrace, if only to swell the Republican ranks to include others more like themselves ... Knockoff Republicans.

Jann: I suppose my biggest difference with Bob on things like this is that he sees Ida B. Wells-Barnett as interesting because she is black, and I see an interesting person that happens to be black. I don't think that makes me the racist.

The main difference between socialism and fascism is on how they organize the economy. Under socialism, the goal is government ownership of business. Under fascism, the goal is government control of business while leaving it technically privately owned. Fascists do that by heavy regulation and their term for that is "the corporate state". The policies of Democrats in recent years have leaned much more to the fascist model than the socialist one.

Socialism and fascism are not opposites. They are kissing cousins. Both are statist totalitarian ideologies. Indeed the full name of the Nazi party was "National Socialist German Workers Party".

Fascism and socialism are opposite sides of the same coin. As a republican, I am not a socialist. I'll make you a deal, you avoid the S word, I'll avoid the F word. Agree?

Jann- It's likely Ida would not be in the MAGA party.
Ida B-Wells-Barnett was a journalist, anti-lynching activist, women's suffragette, and an early civil rights movement leader. The melt down on this thread pretty much supports my position on the subject.

Bob I definitely think Ida B Wells would have been MAGA also! Especially since she was a Republican that was very much into free speech. She definitely was better for women's rights seeing the Democrats praise Margaret Sanger.

IF Germany is to remain Germany and not be overrun by migrants, Merz and the CDU need to find some arrangement with AfD. This may be their last chance before they are overwhelmed. The policy positions of the AfD are essentially what the CDU used to stand for prior to Merkel. Having to deal with the rabidly pro-migrant Green Party, which wants to make it easier for migrants to come to Germany would betray his own voters. Who knows if the Social Democrats would bend on immigration, but probably not as much as would be needed.
If Merz becomes all talk and no do on reducing immigration because of a bad coalition partner, AfD will be sitting there as the main opposition party to eat their lunch if Germany ever gets another election. If AfD supports a minority CDU government from the outside, they might be a win - win for both parties.

Now my guess is, none of you ever heard of Ida B Wells. After you did your “research” you can see she is a historic figure in America who made you, very uncomfortable for a variety of reasons.
But I bet not one HS in Beaufort County ever mentions her name. Can a reader confirm it? I never learned about her in HS. You?
