Some of the older Republicans feel some kind of way about the younger Conservatives with tattoos, earrings and longer hairstyles, I get that, BUT those are the people you want in your corner Things ain't like they were in the 50's, there ain't nobody going to dress like they're on the Grand Ole Opry either.

S*** that people used to talk about back then, at the Country Store, is coming back full circle and the GOP, all of a sudden, acts like they don't know what's going on.

If I could go back in time, with a tape recorder, to any "Country Store" that had booths or porch chairs outside in Beaufort County, a very small group of people would call it "anti-Semitic" or "leftist propaganda". The truth from back then is still the truth now, people have become milktoast marauders.

Rational Observer, I agree with you on most points that you mention. However, I disagree that our military is stronger than ever. This does not detract from the courage, commitment and sacrifice of our men and women currently serving in uniform. They are the most professional, highly trained and capable military force in human history. With that being said, there are many issues currently facing our military that require considerable effort to overcome to bring our strength back to its peak. Many of these issues predate President Trump's election. I believe he is trying to rectify many of these same issues. With that being said, our military will require considerable changes including bureaucratic overhaul, increased spending, recruiting and more that the citizens and political leadership must be willing to commit to if we are to maintain credible deterrence in the short and long term.

Something just announced today underlines the hacking danger of tying our electric and water systems into a computerized network of a company that runs them for lots of other local utilities. The US DOJ just announced that the Communist Chinese had hacked into the computer systems of a number of federal agencies including theirs. justthenews.com

As a stand alone small utility, especially with traditional mechanical metering, we are extremely low on the hacking target list of any malevolent foreign adversary. It is to our benefit to stay in that posture to avoid hacking danger. Any use of computers creates some hacking danger, but as we are it is minimal.

Once we tie ourselves to a network that involves a company handling a computerized system handling many local utilities, we have tied ourselves to what would be a major hacking opportunity near the top of the target list for a foreign adversary. That is just boneheaded. Tyler Tech becomes a hacking target that can be an avenue to sow mischief across many local utility systems.

Hackers have in the last few days shut down electricity in a part of the UK, with the hackers likely from Iran. Several incidents with US utilities also appear to have a hacking connection.

We are a whole lot safer from a hacking danger keeping our utilities like they are instead of tying them into a network likely to be a major hacker target for foreign adversaries.

One thing the article on the downside of the meters didn't mention is that the wrong person could be watching and give info to other as it seems it would be easy to track if someone is home or not by electric usage and the info in the wrong hands could lead to more people being robbed while they are out.
