This film is all about Billy Bob Thornton's Karl Childers: the way he talks, his pregnant pauses, his voice is the rumbling motor of this story: Above and below.

    I have seen this film at least four times, and I uncover a fresh layer of insight as to who Karl Childers is and what he represents. Or maybe ... I just like way he talks.

    Rated R. Released in theaters in 1996.
