State Republican Party Shoots Itself in the Foot ... Again | Eastern North Carolina Now

The source of this ongoing Republican altercation is that there are two party factions - one side driven by principle, the other side driven by personal success. The question is: Where do you stand?

The North Carolina Republican Party is inarguably bent on proving it is inconsequential to real Conservatives, who actually believe in the tenets of the former Republican Party, and live by Conservative principles. The North Carolina Republican party may give lip service to such lofty ideals; however, they prove by their long litany of deeds that they have no desire to understand these Conservative precepts that so many of us live by, and if called upon, govern by. Sadly, this absolute truth is currently how so many of us, who have long been in the political trenches waging hand to hand political combat to end Liberal hegemony Downeast, feel about the NC GOP.

Too strong of an assessment? Not Hardly.

For those of us non establishment republicans in these political trenches, who actually have some small influence over the collective spirit of a dispirited electorate, not only know that the North Carolina Republican Party is losing the battle to collect that collective spirit of the electorate, they have lost - irrevocably lost to the point that they cannot recover. Actions taken by the SBOE to remove real Republican Delma Blinson from the Beaufort County Board of Elections, while being a contributing force in nominal Republican Jay McRoy's appointment, has completely usurped any sense of local voice by the Beaufort County Republican Party to pick its representatives to their local board of elections. These Raleigh establishment Republicans have assumed total control of that local Beaufort County elections board over the objections, growing louder, of the local Beaufort County Republican Party. Due to these profound establishment Republican machinations, the Beaufort County GOP currently has none of its two original appointees serving on that board.

This is a bad omen for real Republicans, and especially for those who wish to elect real Republicans. More and more, in this world of big, and growing government, where elections really do matter the problem is: There will be close elections, and when recounts are involved these local boards of election will be called upon to be honest and fair, and generally in Beaufort County's distant past - a past that I am well acquainted with firsthand - that has not always been the case. To correct this inequity, it is imperative to have fair-minded men and women of integrity serving on local boards of elections. To that end, Beaufort County's Republican Party picked two representatives: former local party chairman, Charles Hickman, and Delma Blinson, who are such people of this fine character trait. Nominal Republican   RINO (Republican In Name Only) Jay McRoy, the favored choice of the NC GOP and other well connected RINOs, is not. Charles Hickman chose to resign rather than serve with RINO Jay McRoy. Now Delma Blinson has been removed on some silly trumped-up charge, by William Buonanno (someone, who after my 5 terms as a county commissioner, and the first Republican ever re-elected in Beaufort County, I still have no real knowledge of), of personally supporting Conservative candidates.

While this, obviously, is not about me, I tend to observe petty themes, such as this sorry business originating from this Buonanno character and the duped pawns on the North Carolina SBOE, from a personal perspective. This perspective reveals to me that the intent of the accusers is always about an elaborate, yet petty, power grab to drive a stake in the heart of real Conservatives in favor of these self-proclaimed (always during primary elections) 'Conservative' frauds. If there is a close election, with a recount, where the election of a real Republican hangs in the balance against a Democrat or a RINO, one may rest assured who will benefit from this State Board of Elections (SBOE) aided RINO controlled Beaufort County Board of Elections.

Anyone with a full working brain; however, would have to question: Why would the state Republican Party allow themselves to get drawn into a local issue brought to them by this Buonanno character? For me, the answer is becoming clearer by their every action, and, now, with the action of their surrogates - the North Carolina SBOE. This all well plays into the construct of that same aforementioned power grab, with the state party working in concert with with nominal Republicans/ RINOs to weaken the Tea Party, which the NC GOP cannot control, and dispatch their candidates in the primary. It is well known by those of us that have been in the political trenches that establishment Republicans, which is the NC GOP, are backing their 'fair-haired-boy' Thom Tillis, even employing former NC party chairman Robyn Hayes to back a 'ringer candidate' in the Charlotte preacher, Mark Harris, to confuse more conservative evangelical voters, thus causing a split in the primary, with nominal Republican Thom Tillis winning the nomination over the far more conservatively principled challenger, Dr. Greg Brannon.

For those who, remarkably, may not be aware of who Thom Tillis is, he is the mercurial legislator from Charlotte, who rose to Speaker of the NC House in just a few short years, got his start from, and learned his political chops from the infamous Richard Morgan. Thom Tillis believes in big government, and political patronage, while consolidating the value of access to his position. I will concede that Thom Tillis's governing/ political paradigm is slightly better than the Democrats; however, his acting as a nominal Republican will not: 1) prove beneficial in solving today's problems made more complicated by big government solutions; 2) create regional political stability because of his unambiguous meddling in the political spheres of other politicians so as to achieve the constant consolidation of power; 3) create an atmosphere where the Republican party offers a meaningful choice of a true difference for despondent Democrats and Independents seeking a alternative political haven.

I suppose it boils down to: Do you believe in your political party, without any real introspective consideration, or do you believe in the wisdom of talented people to make the real difference to serve our fellow Man, and make our Democratic Republic work? It has now been a decade since I discovered just how inconsequential the official Republican party has become in providing meaningful support to aid Conservatives in winning political contests, so I must admit, I am quite prone to unveil to these establishment party people just exactly how I really feel from time to time. It kind of makes one think, not unlike the 'chicken or the egg' theory: Which came first; the flaccid NC GOP, or the poorly principled, unimaginative establishment wonks that run it?

My vote is for the latter.

At the risk of redundancy, I will include this one link to all the posts that at least give Beaufort County Republican party side of this sorry mess.

poll#48
Considering the advancement of Republican Party influence in North Carolina: Would the more Republican approach be:
1.77%   To support the established party infrastructure at the sole discretion of leadership?
91.52%   To marshal the power of the grassroots electorate to sustain their principles?
6.71%   To remain in the dark, while fed manure, as in the classic mushroom theory?
283 total vote(s)     Voting has Ended!

Back in 1994, when I first got my first very rapid lesson in governing, I learned about Democrat politics and bi-partisanship, and I have never shook their logic.

Democrat politics identifies bi-partisanship as 'Do it our way'.

Establishment Republicans remind me so very much of Democrats in their desire for the 'Big Tent' approach to party building. They also are so very much like Democrats in their apparent philosophy of 'Do it our way'. I think it has something to do with the 'Big tent'.

I previously stated that it would take a mutual effort for the party factions to come together. Well, the progressive/establishment faction has answered that question once again. They have once again responded to good faith gestures with hostilities hatched in backrooms and on long distance telephone calls. This phenomenon is not just found in Beaufort County. These attitudes and behaviors are prevalent throughout the party. I believe a political party with no real principles is no more than an association of opportunists. So yes, I have irreconcilable differences with that faction.
