Umbrella Market Opens! | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

The seventh annual Uptown Greenville Umbrella Market season will open on Wednesday, May 21 from 5-8 p.m. This pop-up market is held Wednesday evenings through the end of August and is located at Five Points Plaza at the corner of 5th and Evans streets in Uptown Greenville.

The Uptown Umbrella Market is an event founded to pursue the following goals:

   •  To provide an inviting, centrally located, and hospitable space for contact between area farmers, artisans, producers, crafters, and the public.

   •  To promote the sale of locally grown produce, plants, baked goods, seafood, meats, dairy, art, and other hand crafted products.

   •  To increase access to fresh, nourishing, locally-produced foods and other products of local labor.

   •  To enhance the quality of life in the Greenville area by providing a community activity which fosters an entrepreneurial spirit, social gathering, interaction, equity, education, and helps to build a sustainable local economy and sense of place for residents and visitors.

Five Points Plaza is just steps from City Hall and the County Courthouse and is adjacent to several neighborhoods including West Greenville, Tar River University Neighborhood, and East Carolina University. Twenty restaurants and over 90 retail/service locations are within walking distance from Five Points Plaza.

A cooking demonstration by Chef Tobias Boutilier of Starlight Café will take place at the inaugural market on May 21. "Access to fresh foods is the cornerstone to good health. We will demonstrate how easy it is to make delicious foods using local foods while showing support to our local farmers at the Umbrella Market. Join us."
