    Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory hosted a group of women graduating from the Durham Rescue Mission's recovery program at the governor's mansion today.

The Women's Victory Program Graduation marked the completion of a year-long initiative for Triangle-area women that helps them conquer addictions, abusive relationships, homelessness and other trials. The women at today's event have jobs, plans for college or have made other liberating and uplifting changes in their lives since beginning the program.

The first lady has made bringing attention to the good the Durham Rescue Mission does one of the primary goals of her time as First Lady of North Carolina. The governor and first lady helped to dedicate the Mission's "Center for Hope" last year.

"It takes tremendous humility and courage to ask for help from others, and to follow that request with the level of perseverance seen here today deserves notice," Mrs. McCrory said. "We are all defined by how we handle hardships, and these women have transformed theirs."

Mrs. McCrory, Lt. Governor Dan Forest, North Carolina Council for Women Executive Director Gale Wilkins and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos were just a few of the speakers at the event. Program graduates also spoke about their experiences.

The Durham Rescue Mission is Durham's oldest and largest long-term shelter providing food, clothing, vocational training, biblical counsel, job placement, education, safe shelter, permanent supportive housing, dental, medical, vision and continued accountability for residents to remain drug free. It serves more than 350 men, women and children.
