    Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory has proclaimed June 14-22, 2014 as "Week for the Animals" in North Carolina.

North Carolina Week for the Animals brings together community organizations, animal welfare organizations, libraries, wildlife centers, educational agencies and animal shelters to celebrate the joy, love and service that animals bring to our lives.

"As strong advocates of the protection of North Carolina pets from mistreatment, Ann and I believe this week will generate further support for the safety of animals," said Governor McCrory. "North Carolina is heading in the right direction toward greater protection of animals."

North Carolina Week for the Animals highlights the importance of adopting animals from shelters, spaying and neutering pets, volunteering for an organization, providing resources to community organizations and promoting responsible pet ownership. During North Carolina Week for the Animals, the lives of companion animals will be saved at numerous adoption events, through low-cost, spay-neuter opportunities and educational activities.

Charles you detected a bit of sarcasm in my comment, so you must understand that I agree with you, us.

Which naturally brings us back to the 'Chicken or the Egg' Conundrum: Which came first, the uninformed Facebook addicted, squishy electorate, or the governor looking for a victim hug, a baby to kiss, or a puppy to snuggle?

I'll have to admit to being a little put off when public officials start proclaiming this and commending that to all the citizens. No offence, Governor Pat, but I can take care of my animals just fine without help from the state. I suppose pompous high minded stuff like this gets brownie points from a spouse back at the Governor's Mansion, and I reckon this is supposed to show a kinder gentler profile of the GOP that is meant to bridge the gap with our liberal friends and show we are actually warm and cuddly like those busybody liberal snakes. Well, whatever.

Stan, on the other hand I enjoyed the blasts from the past: "Eric Burden and The Animals" and Eric Burden and War." They also did a great rendition of "Tobacco Road" as well as a laundry list of others.

I've got one for the Governor or any other professing to be conservative politician: "It's My Life." I would recommend politicians listen very carefully to the refrain: "It's my life and I'll do what I want." I might also add some extra lines like, "it's my life and I'll do what I want if the government will just get out of the dag gum way and concentrate on constitutional duties and stop imposing the state in our business!"

"The Animals": Timeless.

Oh yeah, I loved the "The Animals", especially when I was nearing my teenage years. I'm with you on this one Gov.

I will always consider their version of the traditional "House of the Rising Sun" as one of the better ones, and who could ever forget "Don't let me be Misunderstood"(?) - www.youtube.com - and ...

Later Eric Burden doing "Spill the Wine" with "War"... www.youtube.com

And yes, I still thought well of "The Animals".
