    Pardon our mess! Renovations are under way in the lobby of Building 1 and much of the area is inaccessible. Workers are installing new drywall and will paint and replace the carpet in the lobby area which sustained water damage several years ago. Our telephone switchboard is being moved to a new location because of this construction. As a result, callers to the community college may, from time to time, experience difficulties when trying to reach the college on our main number - 252-946-6194. If you have difficulty, a directory of direct dial telephone numbers is available on our website at www.beaufortccc.edu. From our home page, click on Contact Directory in the drop down box on the left side of the page to reach a list of direct dial numbers.

BCCC Foundation

  • In news regarding the Digital Sign Campaign, Foundation Director Judy Jennette reports that $50,748.32 in donations and pledges has been received, over 60 percent of the way towards the final goal! To make a donation, contact Judy at 252-940-6326.
  • Don't forget about several upcoming opportunities to participate in Foundation-sponsored activities.They include the Rock for Human Rights concert at noon on Thursday, September 18, outside of Building 5; a day trip on Saturday, September 20, to the Durham Performing Arts Center to see the musical Dirty Dancing; the 21st annual Foundation Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 26, and a trip to Ireland from April 21 to 30, 2015. Candidate Education Forum

  • There's still time to submit your questions for the Education Forum sponsored by Beaufort County Community College and the Beaufort County Schools. Send your questions to Director of Learning Resources and Distance Education Penny Sermons at pennys@beaufortccc.edu. The forum will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, in the auditorium at Washington High School.

Campus Police

  • BCCC Police Chief Chris Harrision reminds us to use the duty line - 252-943-8721 - if you need to reach campus police officers when they are on duty. The telephone number 252-940-6444 connects you to Chief Harrision's desk telephone and he is often on patrol around campus, in meetings or assisting others. If your need is not urgent or if you have a specific question for Chief Harrison, please feel free to leave a message for him at the 6444 number or send him an email at christopherh@beaufortccc.edu. He will be glad to respond in a timely manner.

Continuing Education

  • Six students - William Arce, Candice Bell, Julian Carr, Takeika Johnson, Fonne Norman and Sherry Spear- completed the division's Nurse Aide II course and received their certificates in a ceremony held Wednesday night. The ceremony was followed by a reception for the graduates of the course and their families. Congratulations to these new Nurse Aide IIs and to Instructor Anne Davenport and program Coordinator Sue Gurley for their work in training these successful students.

Free Day at BCCC

  • For the second year in a row, BCCC will open its doors to give prospective students the chance to attend classes for one day at no cost on Thursday, October 9. This will give those who may be hesitant to continue their education the chance to see what college life is like. Watch for more information about this event in the coming weeks.
  • Gullfest
  • Automotive Technology Instructors Bryan Van Gyzen and Richie Alligood have exciting news regarding the car show scheduled for Gullfest. Richard Douglas "Rick" Hurst who played Cletus Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard television show is going to be the special guest at this year's show. Thanks to Bryan and Richie for arranging this event
  • Now through January 20, BCCC is accepting submissions of T-shirt designs for the Second Annual Gullfest, our spring festival. The winning design will be featured on the official Gullfest T-shirt along with the artist's signature. The artist will receive two free T-shirts and a framed print of his or her design. The contest is open to all students currently enrolled at BCCC. I hope that the contest will have lots of entries!

Travel/Study Group

  • The deadline for $200 in savings for BCCC's Travel/Study Group trip has been extended until Monday. The group, under the leadership of English Instructor Suzanne Stotesbury has begun planning a trip to Belize in May 2015. Tentative dates for the trip are May 26 to June 1. Student participants must be 18 years old or older, have a 2.5 grade point average or better and be enrolled in International Cultural Exploration for the Summer 2015 Term. East Carolina University’s commencement ceremony will take place Friday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum to celebrate approximately 1,925 members of the fall Class of 2023. ECU alumnus Kelly S. King will be the keynote speaker.
