Keith Kidwell Seeks Stan Deatherage's Endorsement | Eastern North Carolina Now

Beaufort County Commissioner Candidate Keith Kidwell has thrown caution to the wind, thereby seeking my endorsement for county commissioner. As I, and many others, are quick to understand, my endorsement is a keen sword that cuts both ways. My endorsement may prove to be both a blessing and a curse.

First the curse. As a commissioner for 18 years, winning five general elections, twice by record totals of votes that still stand, I have become an anathema to liberal Democrats and RINO Republicans. The problem at this point in time for me, and others like me, is that Beaufort County boasts a fair quantity of both, especially RINOs, where Beaufort County is known far and wide of having a preponderance of the Republican/Liberal hybrid, simply known by the acronym RINO (Republican in Name Only). By Keith Kidwell seeking my endorsement, he will inspire some of these mistakenly self-identified Republicans to struggle to the polls to zombie-vote against his mission to help the county in the manner he is well purported to endeavor - to conservatively navigate a path forward.

Now the blessing. Over the years, as I previously mentioned, I did well in general elections. My message spoke coherently to those that voted for honesty, integrity and logic, not self-interest. RINOs and most Liberals always vote self-interest, even if it is only to allow themselves the warmth of some sense of a well-meaning existence, since cognitive thought is definitely never part of the equation. In my years serving my Beaufort County constituents, I did not do well with the ardent Liberal/RINO, and I don't expect that Keith Kidwell will either. I did, however, do quite well with thinking Conservatives, Libertarians and conservative Democrats (those who never switched to Republicans ... and why should they?), and, oddly, some Liberals, who just voted on the strength of character alone.

For those of you that have voted for me in the past, I now request that you too vote for Keith Kidwell. So far, Keith meets enough of the criteria that I need to endorse a candidate - a process I rarely consider after being burned in the past by doing so. Keith is attentive to the details of true conservative governing, which Beaufort County will sorely need when I step down. To that end, I will be mindful of Keith's minding his place, not only as my replacement, but as my Conservative representative.

The key here is that I shall continue to watch after any endorsed elected county commissioner, should Keith be successful in his election, and, on occasion, report on that progress, here in BCN, of whether my decision to endorse Mr. Kidwell was wise, or just kindly fulfilling a request, which I am more reluctant to do now. It is my estimable opinion, that if elected, Keith will pass this continual muster which will continue to support my decision to endorse him now, as well as in the future if he desires it.

Understandably, I don't expect Keith Kidwell, as a newly elected official, to vote as I wish him to do, or as I consistently did; however, I do expect Candidate-elected-Commissioner Kidwell to vote consistently with the dictates of the Conservative principles of smaller, more effective government, while guided by the structured essence of the United States Constitution, and, accordingly, that he never lies to the public. That is all I ask, but often these few common, essential requests are an impossibility for Liberals and RINOs to achieve. Who knows, maybe all I am asking of Keith is to not be a Liberal or a RINO, and to be completely honest with his constituents.

I reckon if Keith can continue to accomplish these maxims, while remaining completely true as my representative voice, he can keep me in his corner, and continue "to throw caution to the wind."

Yeah I that hate too.

Being a principled person means you lug that heavy weight every where you go, especially in business. I won't tolerate a lying politician. I'm sure to be equally ungenerous as I start selling my products.

Thanks Gene. If I could have only made past the RINOs here in Beaufort County, and trust me on this one truth: Limited voting can hurt some Republicans here in Beaufort County - too many people thought I was a shoo-in and spent their one vote on the other guy. Heck, I thought I was a shoo-in.

Keith is a good choice, if you can see clear not to waste your vote on a "write-in" for me.
