    Raleigh, N.C. - The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

North Carolina Recreational Therapy Licensure Board

  • Dr. Megan Janke (Wilson County) – Janke is an assistant professor at East Carolina University.

    The board's duties are to review credentials of therapeutic recreation professionals who practice in North Carolina and use the titles of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) or Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (TRA). The term length is three years.

North Carolina State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examiners

  • Larry Michael (Wake County) – Michael is chief of the Environmental Health Section within the Division of Public Health.
  • Dr. Brian Byrd (Haywood County) – Byrd is an assistant professor at Western Carolina University.
  • Ann Absher (Wilkes County) – Absher is the Wilkes County health director.
  • Phillip Thompson (Alamance County) – Thompson serves as a regional environmental health specialist for the Pools, Tattoos and State Institutions Program within the Environmental Health Section of the Division of Public Health.
  • James Kivett (Chatham County) – Kivett is an environmental health specialist with the Chatham County Public Health Department.
  • Melanie Campen (Pamlico County) – Campen is an environmental health specialist with the Pamlico County Health Department.

    ​The Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examiners was created to safeguard life, health and the environment by registering qualified people to practice as sanitarians in North Carolina. The term length is four years.

North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission

  • Charles Walston (Wake County) – Walston is the director of the Office of Staff Development and Training within the Department of Public Safety.
  • James Fisher-Davis (Mecklenburg County) – Fisher-Davis is the associate dean of the Merancas campus of Central Piedmont Community College.

    The commission promotes new rules and regulations, establishes educational standards and certifies employees within the criminal justice system. It also establishes standards for training schools and instructors, certifies instructors and investigates agencies, schools and individuals. The term length is three years.
