    Mr. John Gargaro, age 76, a resident of Washington, NC passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his residence.

    Mr. Gargaro was born in San Polo, Matese, Italy on January 24, 1939, son of the late Salvatore and Assunta Iacobellis Gargaro. He attended schools in Italy and Bronx, NY. On January 21, 1961, he married the former Elsie Coffey who survives. Mr. Gargaro was a machinist at Atwell Industries in Ayden, NC where he retired in 2001. He was an active member of Mother of Mercy Church, The Grace Martin Senior Center, co-founder of West Islip Soccer Club and was also known as "The Candy Man". He touched the lives of many family members and friends.

    In addition to his family, he is survived by two sons, Sal Gargaro (Lori), Bayshore, NY; John M. Gargaro (Lisa), Washington, NC; his grandchildren, Danny, Noelle, Marisa, Lauren, Justin, and Brianna; and one brother, Mario Gargaro (Frances) of upstate New York.

    A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with Father Brendan Buckler officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC.

    The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremation and other times at the home.
