On July 7, 2011, The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Breaking and Entering and Larceny at a residence on NC Highway 33 in Blounts Creek, N.C. Appliances and tools were taken from the residence. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, conducted interviews, and identified a suspect.

On July 8th at approximately 5:30 a.m., Deputy Andre Ray was patrolling Highway 33 East near Possum Track Road in Chocowinity. Deputy Ray noticed a suspicious truck parked at a business that was no longer in operation. Deputy Ray stopped to investigate, and observed a subject he knew to be Cody Jones loading items into the bed of the truck. The truck contained assorted tools and scrap metal items. When Deputy Ray approached Jones, Jones fled on foot into the woods nearby. Ray gave chase and notified other Deputies to request assistance. The truck was later towed and secured as evidence. Several deputies responded to the area and attempted to locate Jones.

During the search, Jones was seen operating an ATV by witnesses in the area. Deputy Ray returned to his patrol vehicle and later located Jones on the ATV. Ray attempted to perform a traffic stop on Jones, but Jones fled into a corn field with the ATV where he wrecked into a ditch and ran on foot. While searching the wooded area, the Sheriff’s Office received a report indicating the ATV used by Jones had been stolen from a residence on Possum Track Road.

Deputies then attempted to locate Jones at his residence on East Barr Road. When deputies arrived at the residence, Jones fled on foot into the wooded area behind the residence. A short time later, deputies returned to the residence and apprehended Jones as he ran from the home once again.

On July 8, 2011, The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Breaking and Entering and Larceny at a residence on Highway 17 South in Chocowinity. A Ford pickup truck and several power tools and chainsaws were taken from the residence. Several items found in the truck from which Jones ran were identified as items stolen from the break-ins on Highway 33 and Highway 17. The stolen Ford truck was also recovered in the area.

As a result of information collected during the investigation, deputies and investigators at the Sheriff’s Office applied for and obtained warrants charging Cody Vance Jones, age 20, of East Barr Road in Chocowinity, N.C. with three counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, three counts of Felony Larceny, Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, four counts of Resisting a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Flee to Elude Arrest, No Operator’s License, and Injury to Personal Property.
