Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.- A wave of support for Governor Pat McCrory's Connect NC bond proposal has swept the Piedmont. Alamance and Davie counties, the cities of Clinton and Fayetteville and the towns of Harrisburg, Lewisville and Spencer have all passed resolutions in support of placing the Connect NC bond proposal on the ballot in November.

"Local leaders in the Piedmont recognize the importance of these investments to meet the critical needs of our growing state," Governor McCrory said. "I commend their call to let the voters weigh in on this important decision for our state's future.

The Town of Spencer resolution clearly states, "New school facilities and superior roads and bridges are long-term investments in North Carolina's future that will support growth and make the state more attractive to businesses and residents."

Several municipalities highlighted the dire need for infrastructure investments, including the Davie County resolution which notes, "It has been 15 years since the last general obligation bond was authorized to improve public infrastructure, which has resulted in years of deferred investment."

The Fayetteville resolution underscores the urgency to act now by stressing, "Interest rates are at historical lows and it has never been less expensive to make long-term investments."

All seven endorsements call for placing Connect NC on the ballot in November. The latest expressions of support from Alamance and Davie counties, Clinton, Fayetteville, Harrisburg, Lewisville and Spencer follow resolutions of support from other Piedmont municipalities including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Concord, Kannapolis, Rural Hall, Kernersville, Walkertown and Sampson, Cabarrus and Cumberland counties.

Also in the Piedmont, the Board of Directors of the Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce expressed unanimous support for placing the Connect NC bond proposal on the ballot as soon as possible.

Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

The transportation proposal would pay for 27 permit-ready highway projects throughout North Carolina that have completed environmental documents. In addition, Connect NC would fund the paving of 176 unpaved secondary roads totaling 113 miles.

Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved.
