    Betty Jean "B.J." Coleman Johnson, age 86, a resident of 208 Dogwood Drive, Washington, NC, died Thursday August 13, 2015 at her home.

    A private graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday August 15, 2015 at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem and will be officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore.

    Ms. Johnson was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 20, 1929 to the late Henry Russell Coleman and Bina Hackler Coleman. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, she attended Mars Hill College and graduated from Duke University School of Nursing in 1951. Ms. Johnson served as the head nurse at the Bowman Grey School of Medicine and she was an instructor of surgical nursing. In 1963 Ms. Johnson moved to Washington, NC. She was on the women's golf team at the Washington Country Club and loved to play tennis. Ms. Johnson was very interested in sports especially Duke Basketball and the Atlanta Braves. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and was an active part of the Ruth Sunday School Class.

    Survivors include a son Dr. Michael D. Johnson and his wife Debbie of Goldsboro, two daughters, Marilyn J. Daw and husband Ronnie of Washington, Sandra J. Asby and her husband Harley also of Washington, eight grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Pike and husband Dr. Maxwell Pike of Kansas City, MO, Jamie Johnson Harford and her husband Josh of Raleigh, Jackie Johnson of Goldsboro, Colin Daw of Greenville, Reiner Daw both of Washington, Ashley Belote of Washington, Coleman Belote of Washington, and Karl Belote of Morehead City, one sister Norma Lee Younger of Gastonia, NC and one great grandchild, Ashton Colton Belote of Morehead City.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mattie Carter, Sharon Arnold, and Dr. Richard Young.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Widows Mite Building Fund, 113 North Harvey Street, Washington, NC 27889.
