Stan Anxiously awaits further post instruction from the Reverend Gene. | Eastern NC Now

Sometimes the publisher does not have enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done.

Sometimes the publisher does not have enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done.

I know this because this old man has a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night with a brilliant idea that must written in outline form before the brilliance is flushed down the drain. It is then when I get a chance to review my post and make self-critiques over what I should have said.

Invariably, I will see that the publisher is in the process of publishing the important stuff of BCN by the time stamp of the publication. Occasionally, I will send him a private message, which he responds to quickly. I know that his email box is often overflowing with more important matters of business so I try to keep the chatter down to a minimum (somewhere between 300 and 400 words) in Emails.

One of the things I miss most since retiring is the deadlines and multiple projects in process at any time. I did not realize how I thrived on the pressure and stress. Now I do not handle stress so well and my biggest pressure is not to forget the Doctor appointment next month.

For those of us whose main outlet is sitting at the keyboard and pontificating (I hope that is a clean word now a days) about life and our place in the grand scheme of things, we often forget that other people are busy earning a living and trying to expand a company and turn a profit as well.

Stephen Covey had a book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Of all the habits he described I think number #2 is the most important.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind- but I forgot where I was going with this post, Let me re-read it.

Oh yeah, it started out as a reminder that the world does not revolve around us. It came to me when I was commenting on another post and a quote from an movie popped into my head.

That is when I realized that Stan is not up all night waiting for my next submission. He is up all night waiting for The Reverend Gene's next submission.

"Ellis: What you got ain't nothin' new. This country is hard on people. You can't stop what's coming. It ain't all waitin' on you. That's vanity".    (No country for Old Men)

Here is a five minute video with some profound wisdom

I'm really not waiting on Reverend Gene to yell about "HATE", or how the Baptists did him dirty, or how Ronald Reagan and the Conservatives are the bane of the World, while his musing are quite "moderate", I am simply not sleeping, and when I can't sleep I work.

No TV running, no whiskey sipping, no pill popping to help me sleep, just work in the quiet - me keeping the top site originating from northeastern NC on top, and very thankful for all of you contributors that help me to achieve this for us, our platform, our corner of the world, where we can begin to make a difference.

As per usual, good post Bobby Tony, and I remain, partly, in your debt.

Oh, and nice 'photo bomb' in black and white.
