Governor Pat McCrory joined law enforcement and local elected officials, family members and friends for the promotion of 45 State Highway Patrol troopers in Raleigh today.

 Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory joined law enforcement and local elected officials, family members and friends for the promotion of 45 State Highway Patrol troopers in Raleigh today.

"In a time when law enforcement is under more scrutiny than ever, I want to ensure today's honorees and their families that we are committed to doing everything we can to support and protect those that protect us," Governor McCrory said.

 Since entering office, Governor McCrory has worked diligently to recruit and to retain the best and brightest in our state law enforcement agencies. The budget signed by the governor provides salary step increases and market rate increases for highway patrol troopers.

 To better protect our law enforcement officers, Governor McCrory has directed $5 million in matching grants for body cameras for local police departments and appropriated funds for vehicle cameras for the highway patrol. Additionally, the governor secured funding for use-of-force training for state and local law enforcement officers.

 Today's promotions include nine civilian and 36 sworn members from various sections within the Highway Patrol. The employee's name and new rank are provided below.

 The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible.

 The State Highway Patrol has more than 1,600 troopers who cover 78,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills and they stand ready, should any act of terrorism occur.
