    Raleigh, N.C. - The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

University of North Carolina School of the Arts Board of Trustees

  • Anna Folwell (New York, N.Y.) - Folwell is an Executive Project Manager for the Home Team Sports Division at Fox Sports. She previously worked for the company as a Marketing Coordinator. Additionally, through her own company, she has worked in event planning, marketing, production, and community outreach initiatives. She has her Bachelor's degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Media and Journalism and a second degree in Communication Studies. In her free time, she volunteers at various organizations and is a founder of the UNC in NYC Media Mentors group.

    The board of trustees promotes development of the School of the Arts and helps the school serve the state in a way that will complement the activities of the other institutions.

James Sprunt Community College Board of Trustees

  • John T. Phillips Jr. (Duplin County) - Phillips is the Director of Purchasing and Warehouse Logotics for Smithfield Foods, with the responsibility for sourcing and delivering vaccines, medications and supplies to farming operations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia over the last 19 years. He is a Duplin County native and attended James Sprunt Community College.

    Board duties are to elect the president, employ personnel, purchase land necessary for the operation of the college, apply standards for admission and graduation, receive gifts and donations, provide for the administration of all educational and occupational services, and to establish or enter into public or private partnerships for the support of the institution.

Richmond Community College Board of Trustees

  • Jeff VunCannon (Richmond County) - VunCannon is the manager and treasurer of EE VunCannon, Inc. The company is a farm and garden supply shop and Carhartt dealer. VunCannon has been with the company since graduating from N.C. State University with a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Pest Management in May 1982. VunCannon is also active in the community as a Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

    Board duties are to elect the president, employ personnel, purchase land necessary for the operation of the college, apply standards for admission and graduation, receive gifts and donations, provide for the administration of all educational and occupational services, and to establish or enter into public or private partnerships for the support of the institution.

Southeastern Community College Board of Trustees

  • Brenden Jones (Columbus County) - Jones is the owner of Ready Paint and Body LLC and Ready Motors Inc. in Tabor City. Additionally, Jones has been active within the community through such efforts as serving on the county board of elections, and as a deacon in his church.

    Board duties are to elect the president, employ personnel, purchase land necessary for the operation of the college, apply standards for admission and graduation, receive gifts and donations, provide for the administration of all educational and occupational services, and to establish or enter into public or private partnerships for the support of the institution.

Randolph Community College Board of Trustees

  • Bonnie Renfro (Randolph County) - Renfro has been the President of the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation since 1999. She has earned degrees from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. Renfro is active with several local boards including Asheboro Randolph Chamber of Commerce, Randolph County Partnership for Children, and Piedmont Triad Partnership. She will be filling an unexpired term through June 30, 2018.

    Board duties are to elect the president, employ personnel, purchase land necessary for the operation of the college, apply standards for admission and graduation, receive gifts and donations, provide for the administration of all educational and occupational services, and to establish or enter into public or private partnerships for the support of the institution.

State Board of Proprietary Schools

  • Frank Emory (Jones County) - Emory owns a construction company in Jones County where he serves as a county commissioner. Additionally, he serves on the Lenoir Community College Advisory Board, East Carolina Workforce Development Board, and Jones County Health Board (Chairman). Emory has also been an instructor of building construction at the community college level and helped prepare students for the general contractors licensing exam.
  • John Dodson (Iredell County) - Dodson is vice president of NASCAR and community relations for Universal Technical Institute. The Universal Technical Institute has 12 campuses across the country including the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C. Dodson has served as an advisory member to this board since 2012.

    The board shall have general supervision over proprietary schools in the state. The object of said supervision being to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by having the proprietary schools maintain adequate, safe, sanitary school quarters, sufficient and proper facilities and equipment, sufficient and qualified teaching and administrative staff, and satisfactory programs of operation and instruction and to have the school carry out its advertised promises and contracts made with its students and patrons.
