Mrs. Laurie Carter Horne, age 58, a resident of 124 Bath Circle, Washington, died Thursday evening, January 14, 2016 at Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

    Mrs. Laurie Carter Horne, age 58, a resident of 124 Bath Circle, Washington, died Thursday evening, January 14, 2016 at Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

    A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 18, 2016 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh.

    Mrs. Horne was born in Durham County on November 21, 1957, daughter of Edna King Carter and the late Ernest S. Carter. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Welch College in Nashville, TN. She received her Master's Degree in Reading Education from East Carolina University. She was a teacher, Title I Literacy Specialist and Reading Recovery® Teacher for Beaufort and Pitt Counties and then Title I, Parent Involvement and Program Management Specialist for Pitt County.

    Mrs. Horne was married to Henry Horne for 36 years. She was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where her husband pastors. She served alongside him for 28 years in this ministry.

    She is survived by her husband, Henry Horne, of the home; her daughter: Lauren Horne Kimbrell and husband, Stephen of Irvine, CA; her son: Joshua Horne and wife, Juliana of Greenville; five grandchildren: Lily Kate Kimbrell, Ainsley Kimbrell, Carter Kimbrell, Jocelyn Horne and William Henry Horne; and her mother: Edna Carter of Chocowinity.

    The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
