News Release:

Yesterday, the Network for Public Education, a left-leaning group headed by a longtime activist in Washington, D.C., put out its "50 State Report Card." The "report card" is yet another false report aimed at smearing North Carolina's education system...well, and every state who is attempting to reform education to improve accountability, choice and outcomes in public education.

According to this "report card," no state scored an average grade above a C, and even the left-leaning Washington Post blogger Valerie Strauss calls into question the criteria for this report card, saying "This list of criteria is very different than would be one coming from a school reform group..."

This report — like many others released by education groups who are either financed by or aligned with the teachers union — also fails to take take into account the recent achievements to improve education and righting the wrongs of previous leadership by increasing teacher pay and allocating more money in the state's budget for education than ever before. The report even penalizes states for expanding school choice options, which serve to help provide educational opportunities for students through highly successful programs like opportunity scholarships.

This report has little credibility and is simply another report aimed at advancing an activists point of view.
